Trump wrote himself in as chairman indefinitely, with veto power, the right to interpret the charter, issue directives, and name his own successor. The body is not a normal intergovernmental organization with rotating chairs and member-state control. Power sits with him personally, including after he leaves office.
That is the feature that most closely resembles a patronage machine: the boss controls the franchise, the books, and who gets a seat.
Donor money skipped the World Bank and went into a private JPMorgan account
A World Bank fund was set up, with UN-linked reporting rules, for Gaza reconstruction. Months later it had zero dollars. Pledged money from Gulf states and others went instead into a JPMorgan account the board controls. The board said it would report finances to its own executive board “at a time deemed appropriate.” There is no equivalent public audit trail.
That is the clearest “where did the money go?” fact. It is not proof the cash was stolen. It is proof the transparent, multilateral channel was bypassed in favor of an account insiders control.
